Hey Reader,
So, I live in the northeast, and this is the time of year where leaves turn from green to beautiful shades of orange, red, yellow, and maroon.
As they transform, they begin to fall to the ground, leaving trees bare as winter makes her way in. Inevitably, I began to think about loss. It’s a vivid reminder about how we can easily miss the many opportunities to appreciate beauty while it is right in front of us.
Recently, I learned about the passing of an old friend. In conversations with their family, I learned that they had been working hard to make significant changes before their sudden departure.
I, of course, found beauty in this knowledge because I thought about the leaves.
About how for most of the year, in my opinion, they are an unspectacular green. And how it's not until they are gearing up to leave us, they change into this beautiful array of colors.
And that if we are not careful, we’ll miss the beauty.
I’ve shared recently about the connection between wellness and wholeness, and how these occur in community. I also emphasized the importance of interdependence over independence, and valuing the connections in our lives. You might have noticed a recurring theme in these musings.
For today, I’d like to invite you to a small yet profound exercise: list five people who bring beauty into your life. Once you have your list, take a moment to reflect. Take time to notice it, I mean really notice it.
Do you truly recognize and appreciate this beauty? Or, have you become caught up in the doing of life and missed out?
There is always something to do–work tasks piling up, house chores getting out of hand–and suddenly the day is over before we’ve had the chance to truly see the beauty around us.
This week, let’s pause together. Let's take a deep breath and really notice – be present to the beauty that these important people add to our lives. It's a simple act, but in doing so, we honor them and the richness they bring to our world.
You can acknowledge the beauty that exists in your life right now. It's there, in every moment, every interaction. Sometimes, all it takes is a pause to truly see it.
As always, I look forward to reading your reflections and experiences.

Beloved, This past weekend I was able to spend time with my best friend as we went to the Brandy & Monica concert-whew! Not only was it a time, but it was also deeply needed and long overdue bonding. It reminded me how beautiful-and complex-it can be to navigate friendships in adulthood. As adults, we’re juggling so much: work, family, relationships, responsibilities, and the ongoing work of becoming. Sometimes, in the midst of all that, it’s easy to trick ourselves into believing that our...
Hey Reader, “I’ve been gone for a minute, now I’m back with the jump off.” – Lil’ Kim It’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, and whew… a lot has been happening! As I’ve shared before, last August I made some big moves — literally and figuratively. I relocated to a new state, started a new job, settled into a new home, and even did a little exploring around the world. But if I’m being real, I’ve been slacking on my own soul care for a minute. So, I’m using this moment to realign and get...
Hey Reader, I know it’s been a little bit, but I’m back! I hope you have been doing well as we transition fully into Spring. Did you know, May is Mental Health Awareness Month? Well, if you didn’t know, now you know! This month is a reminder to attend to your mental health and overall well-being. To take a step back and reflect on the ways in which you’ve handled yourself with care and attended to emotional, spiritual, relational, and psychological health. Often, we focus on completing tasks...
