Hi Reader,
I hope this email finds you in wellness.
Recently, while teaching my Lifespan Human Development course, I had a growth moment with a student. As we discussed the biological ways humans develop, she remarked, “I get there may be things that we share [i.e., traits], but I’m an individual.”
With her permission, we dove deeper into that sentiment. Through our conversation, she began to see just how interconnected she is with her surroundings and the people in her life.
I get it - we can easily believe that we're all unique, standalone individuals. Yet, this very perspective oftentimes causes rifts in families, partnerships, and organizations.
Recall our last conversation about the impact of valuing independence over interdependence…
The truth is, we are deeply interconnected.
Picture this:
What if, every time we interacted with someone, our primary thought was, I know that I need you in order for me to be successful… to be well.
What if we understood that our wellness was linked to each other? How transformative would that mindset be for our relationships and interactions?
This shift in perspective can be life changing.
As a therapist, witnessing my clients embark on this journey to wellness has been wonderful. Observing groups and members of organizations recognize and lean into this relational truth is equally gratifying.
So, as we all continue on our journey, I invite you to look at your interactions through the lens of interdependence – deeply recognizing the value and importance of others in your journey to wellness.
I’d love to hear how this shift influences your week. Click 'reply' and share your experiences, insights, or questions with me.

Until we meet (in your inbox) again - take care.

Beloved, This past weekend I was able to spend time with my best friend as we went to the Brandy & Monica concert-whew! Not only was it a time, but it was also deeply needed and long overdue bonding. It reminded me how beautiful-and complex-it can be to navigate friendships in adulthood. As adults, we’re juggling so much: work, family, relationships, responsibilities, and the ongoing work of becoming. Sometimes, in the midst of all that, it’s easy to trick ourselves into believing that our...
Hey Reader, “I’ve been gone for a minute, now I’m back with the jump off.” – Lil’ Kim It’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, and whew… a lot has been happening! As I’ve shared before, last August I made some big moves — literally and figuratively. I relocated to a new state, started a new job, settled into a new home, and even did a little exploring around the world. But if I’m being real, I’ve been slacking on my own soul care for a minute. So, I’m using this moment to realign and get...
Hey Reader, I know it’s been a little bit, but I’m back! I hope you have been doing well as we transition fully into Spring. Did you know, May is Mental Health Awareness Month? Well, if you didn’t know, now you know! This month is a reminder to attend to your mental health and overall well-being. To take a step back and reflect on the ways in which you’ve handled yourself with care and attended to emotional, spiritual, relational, and psychological health. Often, we focus on completing tasks...
